Apple's 27-inch Thunderbolt Display
Apple has introduced a new 27-inch Thunderbolt Display, which includes Thunderbolt technology. Thunderbolt technology lets users move data between devices and computers with unprecedented speed. With two channels of 10Gbps throughput in both directions, it's up to 20 times faster than USB 2.0 and up to 12 times faster than FireWire 800 and it allows you to connect as many as six devices through a single compact port. At 2560 by 1440 pixels, it is the highest resolution 27-inch LED monitor on the market. It has 60 percent more pixels than the 24-inch LED Cinema Display with an aspect ratio of 16:9. This display includes three USB 2.0 ports, a FireWire 80 port, a gigabit Ethernet port, two Thunderbolt ports, a built-in 49-watt speaker system, LED backlight technology, ambient light sensing and a built-in FaceTime HD camera and microphone. The IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology produces a bright picture with excellent color consistency even when viewing the display from the side. Users will notice immediately that the LED screen is brighter and whiter. LED screens last longer than CCFL, retain their brightness over time, have no delay in reaching full brightness and use much less energy (30% less than a conventional LCDs). LED screens are more environmentally friendly and are free of PVC, arsenic and mercury. The enclosure is made from highly recyclable aluminum and the packaging is much smaller to reduce size and weight during shipping. The 27-inch Thunderbolt Display is designed to work with MacBook Airs, MacBook Pros, iMacs and Mac minis with the Thunderbolt connector.
